Some of Sharion’s accolades include multiple professional nursing publications resulting from her work on clinical trials, serving on the speakers’ bureau for the American Heart Association, serving as a steering committee member on National Institutes of Health-sponsored clinical trials in stroke, clinical nurse coordinator for numerous cutting edge clinical trials, both industry, and government-driven. Sharion was a citation award winner for a poster presentation at the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s 29th annual meeting and Scientific session, presentation at the Minority Women’s Health Summit, the 14th annual Stroke Belt Consortium meeting, and poster presentation at the 32nd International Stroke Conference.
Sharion was featured on the cover of Nursing Spectrum Magazine- Southeastern Region, for her work on raising stroke awareness in the community and her work on the multi-city Beauty shop stroke education project, where she worked with beauticians in the African American community to help educate their clients about stroke. She also received local media television coverage for her work on this project.
Sharion currently serves as health ministry leader for her church congregation where she and her committee focus on raising self-awareness geared towards medically related conditions and risk factors associated with those conditions. She reaches out to her congregation through monthly news articles, participation in nationally recognized events throughout the year, and regular blood pressure monitoring and counseling on the same.
